The Twin Hug.

The Twin Hug.

Not sure if this is true or not, regardless it’s a great twin story!

This picture is from an article called “The Rescuing Hug”. The article details the first week of life of a set of twins. Each were in their respective incubators and one was not expected to live. A hospital nurse fought against the hospital rules and placed the babies in one incubator. When they were placed together, the healthier of the two, threw an arm over her sister in an endearing embrace. The smaller baby’s heart stabilized and temperature rose to normal.

Uh-oh…Twin Sisters Face Murder Charges…

MOBILE, Ala (Reuters) - Twin sisters face three counts each of reckless murder in connection with the burning deaths of three of their children in Atmore, Alabama.

Akeevia Lajoseia Abner and Tekeevia Lajoseialan Abner, 18, were taken into custody on Monday by the state fire marshal. A bond hearing has not yet been set.

Escambia County District Attorney Steve Billy said the women left 3-year-old Aniyia Abner, 3-year-old Takia Abner and 22-month-oldMichael Coleman alone on Wednesday night last week.

The fire marshal’s preliminary investigation indicated an oven left open — possibly as a heat source — could be the source of the blaze that killed the unattended children.

In a prepared statement, Billy said the women showed “an extreme indifference” to the children’s lives and “created a grave risk of death to the children” by leaving them alone.

Scott Pilgreen, an assistant state fire marshal, said one child was found in a bedroom and the other two in a hallway. When fire personnel arrived just before 8 p.m. Wednesday, they found the home engulfed in flames and all three children unconscious, he said.

The children were transported to Atmore Community Hospital, where each died a short time later. The preliminary cause of death has been listed as smoke inhalation, but all the children suffered burns as well. Their bodies have been transported to Mobile for autopsies, Billy told Reuters on Tuesday.

It was not immediately known which children belong to which mother or if either woman has any other children not present in the home at the time of the blaze.

Meet the Romain twins– Donald & Mark!

7 Nov

Hello Twinsy readers-

Happy November! Can you believe it’s already the Holiday season? I feel like everything’s exciting during these months–the crisp cool air, the leaves changing colors, family get-togethers…it’s an all around merry time!

Today we bring you two hot twins. Yes, like attractive model- “hello, I’d like to marry you”-type. But let’s not insult them by only complimenting their looks, the two are both “hella beat” dancers. See me getting into the “dance” lingo? Yeah I can spit with the rest of em!

I actually met them on set working with them on a commercial! We were dancing, singing crazies for 2 days of rehearsals and 1 longggggg shoot day. ‘Twas great fun. The two caught my eye, yes because they are twins and are perfect for Twinsy, but also because of their amazing personalities! They were joking around and having fun with everyone on set. Let’s just call it charisma. Some people just have it, don’t hate.

Meet Donald:

It must be difficult to look like this, right?

Meet Mark:

I seriously want my children to look like them. I’m thinking it’s not going to happen, seeing as I’m married. (love you sweetie!)

The two have danced with the greatest figures in the dance world–Brian Friedman (my personal favorite choreographer), Denise Faye (Chicago), Steven Antin (Burleque) and even the, wait for it….. the….. legendary……BRITNEY SPEARS. I mean, once you do that you’re dance dreams are pretty much accomplished.

Read on to meet Donald Romain and Mark Romain:

  • 1. Tell us about your childhood, what was it like growing up? Particularly as twins? Where did you grow up?

We grew up in San Diego, CA. Growing up was fun but it also was very challenging. Being a twin everyone knew who you were and I think that was overwhelming for me. When I was growing up Mark and I went everywhere together, because there was two of us at a very young age our parents trusted that if we were together we were safe. From kindergarden all the way through senior year of high school everyone knew us as “the twins”. People still refer to us at the twins. It was nice though because growing up you always at least always had one other person around to do stuff with.

    2. Was there competition between you two? Is there now? Have you always been interested in similar activities/career paths (like acting/modeling?)

There hasn’t really ever been competition between the two of us. Mostly we did things together, not against each other. We both had an interest in drama and dancing and so most of our activities we were in together. I don’t think we ever planned to dance professionally together (especially since we didn’t start dancing until about 10th/11th grade of high school). In high school we directed dance teams together and in college were on the same competitive team. Dancing becoming a full time career is just something that kind of developed.

    3. How is it working on set together? How is it working apart? Do you think being a twin helps you book things more or hinders you?

Working on set together has its advantages and disadvantages. We are usually always put as opposites and so we work seamlessly together. We have danced together for so long that we can make changes and match each other by just discussing what we need to do, it makes it really easy. The disadvantage is that after dancing with each other for so long there is little patience between the two of us so it gets trying at time. Being a twin has help us book a lot of jobs, people easily remember who you are when you’re a twin.

    4. What are your future aspirations?

Well so far every plan I have had for my life has gone in a completely different direction. If you were to tell me I would be living in Los Angeles and dancing for a living I would have told you that you were crazy!! So right now, my goal in life is to do what makes me happy. I have an interest of becoming a dance agent eventually, but if that is what my future holds I will know when I get there.

    5. Do you both plan on always living near each other? Have you ever been separated for a period of time, if so how was the experience?

I don’t think that we ever planned to live near each other, but we have lived together for the past two years. We just recently moved, I moved to Santa Monica and Mark moved to Hollywood. Since we work together, living a part doesn’t really affect us much. It’s a bit of a relief on our relationship to not be with each other all the tim.

    6. What’s the most annoying, weird twin questions you are asked? Do you have a “twin language?”

AHHH can you really narrow it down to one question!? “Do you feel when he is hurt?” “Can you talk to each other through your mind?” “DOUBLEMINT!!!” “Have you ever tricked anyone?”
I don’t think we have a twin language, but in general we know what each other are thinking about a situation by just looking at each other.

    7. In general, do you like being a twin?

It has it’s ups and downs, but I can’t say I dislike it. I do like being a twin. The funny thing when you’re a twin for me, is that I don’t think we really look alike and I can only see one of us and so at times I forget that I am a twin. Is that confusing?

    8. What’s the most annoying thing about the your brother/twin? What do you fight over most?

We see differently on the way we handle things. Mark is the kind of person who always has to think about things and it frustrates me because I am the kind of person who likes to talk and make decisions immediately.

    9. Do twins run in your family? Do you have other siblings?

There is another set of twins on my mom’s side of the family. They are my grandma’s nieces. We have a brother who is 13 and a half sister who is a year older than us.

    10. Tell us a funny/interesting/unique story about being a twin…(anything from when you were little, to being a working dancer/model, to whatever! Just a funny twin story.)

I couldn’t count the amount of times that we have shown up wearing the same thing to rehearsal or walked out of our rooms to go someplace and are wearing the exact same thing.

One more Britney Spears picture….just because. :)

    Toodles for now,

    -Twinsy.

Twins Battle Anorexia.

17 Oct

Hello Twinsy Readers!

Today we bring you a story that was referred to us by a dear friend. It’s a tragic story about the pressures and unique obstacles many twins face. Competition and comparison. These green monsters are magnified for twins, especially when they are used as a way to distinguish separate identities.

The set of twins we introduce you to today similarly face this challenge and deal with it through anorexia.

Meet Clare and Rachel Wallmeyer.

They have set up strict rules to control the competition between them, making sure neither one is ever “the fat one.” They can only eat a set number of calories a day and precisely control their movements in order to burn the exact same number of calories. Through their troubled addiction to anorexia, the two have been in and out of jails, therapy centers and hospitalizations.

The twins are long distance runners; another way to control their weight. When they don’t eat, they often drink coffee, diet coke and take laxatives to control their hunger pains.

The twins, now 33 and from Australia, have battled anorexia since they were 14.

The twins are currently in treatment and working towards recovery.

It’s a sad, horrible disease the twins face. We hope they can recover and remember all the beautiful things that come with being a twin.

Enjoy your week!

Twins on Anderson

26 Sep

Hello!

Have you all seen the new Anderson Cooper show, Anderson? Well, it’s great. I mean he is great, he is realllllly great, like reallly, ridiculously, great. Who knew a man with white hair could be SO great? Well he is. ;)

The content on Anderson is pretty interesting too. Especially for twins! This past week they featured Canadian twins, Tatiana and Krista Hogan. The four-year-old twins are the only known conjoined pair to share a crucial part of their brain.

Check out parts of Anderson’s interview with Tatiana & Krista’s Mom: The twins share visionThe twins share a lot of things, but not necessarily the same taste buds.

On Monday, that’s today, Anderson has a set of twins who dealt with severe abuse, neglect and trauma. Through it all, no matter the pain and difficulties, they  always have each other to lean on. A true story of survival.

We already love the new show! It’s like Oprah, kinda.

Now for a funny personal story…

This week we got asked the twin questions…. which I dread. It’s so hard to put up a false persona of indulging someone else’s ridiculous questions. The older I get, the more I refuse to play along…

It starts like this, “Oh my gosh are you guys twins?!!!”

“Yeah…”

“That’s so cool. Do you just love it? I always wanted a twin.”

“Yep….”

“Which one is smarter?” (Completely serious)

“…..”

“Which one i prettier?? Oh this is so fun…”

“….”

“Well which one got better grades in school? Are you identical? You sure look identical. Stand together so I can tell who is who.”

“….” (Inner thoughts: I hate you.)

Haha….is “hate” a strong word? Maybe. Moral of the story: just don’t ask twins the “twin questions.” I know you want to, you may think it’s unique and ask out of genuine concern, but alas, it is not. That’s all.

Twin Doctors- Vince and Vance Moss.

19 Sep

Hello Twinsy Readers!

I know I have been a slacker.

You may have thought I abandoned you, that my weary fingers were tired from blogging, that I would not return….but you were wrong. Here I am again. I’m like a crazy banji (What’s a Banji?!) you can’t get rid of, remember that. :) In reality, my personal life has been on overload for the last few weeks– A best friend’s wedding in a different state, crazy work schedules and, as always, filled with auditions. I should start a blog about the auditions I go to, they would blow your mind.

Anyway, in my meantime I have been watching non-stop episodes of Grey’s Anatomy (thanks to Netflix). My conclusion? I should have gone to med school. I mean being a doctor is glamourous, fun and makes you really good-looking, right?

Well, today I introduce you to two twins who really did go to med school (and aren’t too shabby in the looks department either) meet Vince and Vance Moss!

These twins are truly changing the world and making a difference. Not only are they successful doctors practicing in the States, they are international healers. They travel to Afghanistan and Iraq to help the victims of war. In countries where running water, electricity and anesthesia are a luxury not a standard, these twins are using their skills to help save lives.

The twins originally tried to pitch a mission to the State Department to bring much needed medical help to the war-torn countries. After being denied, the twins decided to fund the mission themselves; they hired security, a translator and chartered a plane. After three missions to Afghanistan and having saved thousands of lives, Vince and Vance are heroes.

The pair’s good work has not gone unnoticed. They were named “Person(s) of the Year” by ABC’s World News with Charles Gibson, awarded the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal–the highest humanitarian honor in the U.S. Army–and Men’s Health named them, “International Health Heroes.”

These are the types of people we should look up to, not silly, ridiculous celebrities and their million-dollar earrings….cough,Emmys. These two are humans who truly make a difference in the world.

Separated at Birth: A True Twin Story.

22 Aug

Good Morning! :)

For all of you starting school this week– Enjoy the last few days of summer while you can!

A good friend of ours sent over this incredible story about separated twins (thanks Jessica!!) and we knew we had to share. It’s a bit exciting, weird and tragic all mixed together. Sounds like a good story to start off a Monday….

Imagine you are born believing you have a fraternal twin. You love your other siblings, your parents, and especially your special relationship with your twin. You know that you look different from your family, it bothers you but you disregard it. For 28 years this is how you live your life.

Until one day….

You find out that your “fraternal twin” is actually identical twins with someone else. Someone who looks and acts just like her.

Credit: Alyson Hurt / NPR

This is exactly what happened to three people in the canary islands. Biological twins Begona and Delia, and singleton Beatriz. Because of a careless act by a hospital worker, Delia and Beatriz were switched at birth. Begona and Beatriz were raised to believe that they were fraternal twins, and Delia was raised as a singleton. A case of mistaken identity by a mutual friend, lead to Begona and Delia eventually meeting and realizing that they were indeed identical twins.

Read the full story on NPR here!

While a story like this one grabs our attention and has entertainment value, it’s really difficult for all the families involved. It’s tragic that identical twins Begona and Delia won’t ever have the opportunity to be as close in life as they are genetically. It’s heartbreaking for Beatriz to think that she is “losing her twin.” And it’s hard for each family to accept the person they knew for 28 years is not actually related.

NPR quotes author of the book, Someone Else’s Twin; The True Story of Babies Switched at BirthNancy Segal saying, “Everyone’s life played out in a way that was not intended. I think it was this that tormented the parents so very deeply and has gotten in the way of Begona and Delia truly developing a close relationship.”

Interesting right??

Until next week,

-Twinsy.
